Few scenes have aged as well on vinyl as 70s German experimental rock. The motorik pulse, the long-form pieces and the analogue synth layers were built for the format, and original pressings on Brain, Ohr and Kosmische have become expensive collectors' items — while modern represses have made the catalogue accessible again. Twenty records that frame the scene: Düsseldorf's machine pulse, Cologne's Can school, Berlin's synth drones and Munich's psychedelia. Chronological order, no ranking.
