Santa Esmeralda's version of "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" was released in summer 1977 as a 16-minute epic that took up an entire side of their album, which was picked up for distribution by Casablanca Records. The group transformed the Animals' arrangement with disco, flamenco, and other Latin rhythm and ornamentation elements. Their 7-inch single version peaked at #15 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the U.S.
