About this record
This recording of Beethoven's Fidelio was made exclusively for OCEANIC RECORDS, Inc. in January 1950 and featured the Symphony Orchestra of the Mitteldeutsche Rundfunk, Leipzig directed by Gerhard Pflüger, with singers including Margarete Bäumer as Leonora/Fidelio and Heinz Sauerbaum as Florestan. The recording required an eight day recording session after innumerable rehearsals and performances by the opera company.
